ChuSchool Children's Privacy Notice (Direct Notice to Parents)
Version: v1.3
Last updated: 2026-11-06 · Effective date: 2026-11-07
This English text is the governing version.
This notice is for parents and guardians. Before we store your child's learning data on our servers, we need your consent. This notice tells you what we collect from or about your child and what you can do. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. Who is responsible
Clavis Sinica Limited, Auckland, New Zealand ("we"), operator of ChuSchool (chuschool.com).
Contact: privacy@chuschool.com · purchases and help: support@chuschool.com · +64 21 830188.
2. What we collect about your child
You create the profile; your child never signs up. We collect only:
| Information | Source |
|---|---|
| Nickname (please do not use a real name) and a preset avatar | You |
| Age band (3–5, 6–8, 9–12), not date of birth | You |
| Language for explanations and parental settings | You |
| Learning progress, game results, stars. Learning progress now also includes which lessons of the course a child has completed, the date, and stars (1–3) for that day's game. If a parent chooses to skip the introductory stroke lessons, we record that choice (and any later undo) as a progress record. | Generated as your child learns |
| Daily study time | Generated as your child learns |
| Only if you switch on “Ask Korii”: the questions about Chinese characters your child types (used to generate an answer; we do not keep the wording) and how many questions your child asked that day | Created when your child uses it |
| Only if you switch on “Read aloud”: the stars (1–3) and date of each practice | Created when your child practises |
We do not collect your child's real name, date of birth, photo, voice, location, school, phone number, contacts or advertising ID. Apart from questions to “Ask Korii”, we do not collect anything your child types freely. If you switch on “Read aloud”, the microphone is used only while your child holds the read-aloud button, and the sound is compared for tone inside the browser on the device and never uploaded or stored. We do not use the camera.
3. How we use it
Only to provide learning: to choose suitable content, schedule review, show progress to you, and keep the service secure. We do not use it for advertising or marketing, and we do not build profiles for any other purpose.
4. Who sees it
- You, in the parent centre.
- Our service providers, only as needed to run the service (hosting; Resend sends email to you, not to your child; only if you switch on “Ask Korii”, Anthropic receives the questions your child types in order to generate answers, with no nickname or identifier, does not use them to train its models, and deletes them within 30 days by default). They may not use it for their own purposes.
- Purchases of textbook PDFs are made by you, the parent. They are handled by our payment provider Stripe and involve no information about your child.
- No one else. We do not sell it or give it to third parties for their own use. There is no chat with other people, social sharing, public profile or leaderboard.
Because “Ask Korii” sends the questions your child types to an AI service, Anthropic, you must first read the Ask Korii Notice for Parents and give separate consent (see section 5). If we ever plan to share children's information with any other third party, we will likewise tell you and ask for separate consent first.
5. How we get your consent
- You create an account and verify your email address.
- You read this notice and tick the consent box for core learning data, which is required. Optional features are off by default: Ask Korii needs your separate consent for each child in the parent area, and we record when you consented and the notice version; Read aloud is switched on by you for each child in the parent area, and the browser also asks separately for microphone permission. You can switch either off at any time, with immediate effect.
- We record when you consented, the version of this notice, and how.
- In regions where it is required, we send a follow-up confirmation email with a link to withdraw.
Until you consent, your child's profile stays pending and no learning data is stored on our servers.
6. Your rights
For each child you can, at any time:
- See the information we hold;
- Export it;
- Correct it;
- Delete the profile (you have 30 days to undo before permanent deletion);
- Withdraw consent and refuse any further collection. Withdrawing consent to core learning data deletes the profile.
Use the parent centre where available, or email privacy@chuschool.com. We will confirm it is really you (password or email confirmation) before acting. We will not require your child to provide more information than is necessary in order to take part.
7. How long we keep it
While the profile exists. After you delete it, permanent deletion follows the 30-day undo period; backups are replaced within 35 days. Profiles on accounts inactive for 24 months are deleted after a reminder. A minimal consent record (without learning data) is kept for 3 years to show consent was given.
8. Security
Encrypted connections, hashed passwords and tokens, limited access, an append-only audit log, and rate limiting. Details in our Privacy Policy, section 10.
